And Thursday’s Fire Danger has moved into Friday’s Fire Danger.
The last remaining clones of my close family live in San Diego. Not of their own choice, but of their parents and grand-parents choice. My relatives there are half split between Republican and Democrat. My closest relative, my last remaining cousins, lives there still.
I called two days ago and was rebuffed. “Thanks for checking-in, we’re OK. No fires here.” (a certain mentality exhibited with that phrase, and phase of climate denial). I wasn’t “checking-in”, I was checking-up on them as their whole Southern California dream burns up around them while they sit oblivious to its causes, both socially and scientifically.
There is massive global warming ignorance. The Republicans in the family, without giving any proof, say that “These fires are too out of place in California (?!). “SOMEONE is starting them on purpose. SOMEONE will pay for this.” I felt her words close. I was being indicted for fires, out of my control. Yet completely in hers. I would say to my relative…
“Racial injustice and climate inequity will get you every time is all I could think about as you railed about “SOMEONE” without proof. Karma is a killer.”
