A Story of Yuval Ne’eman, and Mohammad Abdus Salam
Between 1958 and 1960 Yuval Ne’eman was IDF Attaché in Great Britain, where he also studied for a PhD in physics under the supervision of 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics winner Abdus Salam at Imperial College, London. In 1961, he was demobilized from the IDF with a rank of Colonel. It was later in the late 1970’s that he went on to form a right-wing party in Israel opposed to the Camp David Accord.
Today in the 21st Century we would certainly be incredulous at this relationship. Here was a member of the Israeli Defense Forces, a former fighter for Israel in the 1948 War, a future fighter for Israel, an Attache’ in the UK, earning his PhD in Physics from Mohammad Abdus Salam NI, SPk, KBE, a Pakistani theoretical physicist.
“Prof. Dr. Salam was science advisor to the Ministry of Science and Technology in Pakistan from 1960 to 1974, a position from which he was supposed to play a major and influential role in the development of the country’s science infrastructure. Salam contributed to developments in theoretical and particle physics. He was the founding director of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), and responsible for the establishment of the Theoretical Physics Group (TPG) in the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). As Science Advisor, Salam played a role in Pakistan’s development of the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and may have contributed as well to development of atomic bomb project of Pakistan in 1972; for this, he is viewed as the “scientific father” of this programme.” -Wikipedia
I will leave it to the readers to come to their own conclusions for now. This is the beginning, in science and physics of the ‘Quark Theory of Matter.’ It may have been impossible without one or the other being involved. I have none, except that this is another example from the ‘files of humanity.’ We need all aspects, and everyone, if we are going to make a go of it in space exploration and saving our own Planet. No one in advances knows which one of us will help safe us as a species.
