FORBES.COM, what did you expect?

The only thing misleading is, MAYBE WE HAVE ONLY 10 YEARS.  Of course, Michael Marshall “contributes”, and discusses “back then” and “old arguments”.

As a Professor I “taught”, and as a Senior Research Scientist at a pre-eminent Environmental Lab, I did “basic research”, publishing  over 100+ papers, 3 book titles, and with a H-index of 20.

On the other hand, Michael Marshall is a “Contributor.” Good on you, Mr. Marshall.  Mr. Marshall’s , On The Nature of Reality…

“The reality is that there is no such cut-off: just a problem that gets worse and worse the later we leave it.”

Sort-of like hacks with Bachelor’s degrees writing on a subject they know little about.

Let me explain.  It is anything but “a problem”, but THE PROBLEM.  It is an exponential or 3rd order polynomial “problem”.  I can tell I may have already lost Mr. Marshall (evolutionary biologist), but not the more incisive readers of FORBES.COM.

To be successful in business or at FORBES.COM,  you must understand polynomials and exponential functions.  Here is what reality looks like…

Let’s dissect our data sets, as there are three data sets illustrated above giving the same grim results if we do not act on climate reality.  If we look at the CMIP5 data set, (dotting powder blue) the surface temperature of the Earth is rising exponentially. If we taken the MEAN of the data sets, it is only rising as a 3rd order polynomial function  [ F(x) = a^3 +b ].

Either way, despite Mr. Marshall’s protestations, it is NOT just getting “worse and worse”.  He describes a 1st order polynomial (although he may not have the background to understand what he describes).  It is far from 1st -order.

An exponential function you can “TAKE TO THE BANK” FORBES.COM readers, as we say in America.
