Baker, Oregon 1918 total eclipse as portrayed in his first “space” painting. He was invited by Carnegie to go with the US Naval Observatory Expedition to Oregon. Much preliminary work went into this portrayal.
Henry Russell Butler at the easel, painting one of his many ocean sea-scapes. He used these as models for his own ocean and landscapes of possible exo-planets for scientific research, such as Mars. To the an older viewer of the 21st Century, he is the “spitting image” of President Theodore Roosevelt. To a viewer of his own time, that would be insulting.
